What an adventure.

During the preparations for our Tour which will kick off next week in Izmir we also visited Berlin in the meantime. Thanks to startup friends we were able to visit the Berlin Alley, or the Berlin version of Silicon Valley. Impressive is the least I can say. Streets full of startups, no need to travel, just going next doors to meet the next one. We were invited by Allryder, a platform for navigation. Great team by the way with the lovely Sarka as perfect host.

Next to the fact that the startups really aim for cool, they also consist of international teams with English as common language. Everybody knows everybody and the vibe can be sensed in each street, bar, pizza place and shop. A delight it is. Back to Istanbul I realised that we still have quite a road to go. Big thanks to our good friends in Berlin, Olga, Yasmina andRobert making our stay unforgettable.
So join us for the Pirates Tour and help us create a vibrant startups world too. Below you find the cities and the links to register. We have great speakers, jury members and you, the audience of course! And maybe we meet you, the winning startups, in Cologne during the Pirate Summit pitching for a bunch of great investors!

And by the way, on the picture on top you see Taner Akcok, founder ofAppanalytics. I know him for some time now and besides being a great guy he also started a great startup. He will be pitching in Istanbul and I really look forward to see his pitch. I hope it will inspire all other startups to join us and pitch their ideas! Startups can still register, see below. The game is on :-) AAAAArr

Turkish Airlines has finally started its much anticipated direct flights between Istanbul and San Francisco. It’s THY’s second destination in California (after Los Angeles). The flights are operated 5 times a week in both directions.

The company said the flights will help to connect startup communities and business people in Istanbul and surrounding region to San Francisco that houses world’s technology hub Silicon Valley. It has also released a humorous promo video that teases startup people, and introduced a customized delivery for the Boeing 777–300, named Safranbolu, which will inaugurate service between two major cities.
