To measure is to know. And what you know you can manage. Nobody will object to this statement, especially as we are measuring more and more so one would expect that we manage better. You wished. In theory, we can measure an amazing number of things. So when you don’t measure or do not share measurements, then we can imagine what happens with the management.

Agriculture is part of my DNA. My grandfather was a farmer and I farmed for a couple of years, even almost starting my own bio farm, but luckily I couldn’t find enough free land. I…

Even my mother didn’t understand why I started this company, it was my second one. I had this wild idea to start a media company with outdoor advertising. Instead of doing my homework, I immediately bought the license and started. The part my mother did not understand that the advertising would be on garbage bins in the middle of shopping streets. I had no marketing background and didn’t even test if it was really working. I was simply an enthusiast and believed all the arguments that the owner of the license had.

I immediately started to work with an outdoor…

I was so bad at languages at school. For French, I am native Flemish-speaking, I sat next to Catherine who spoke French at home. Every test she helped me willing or unwillingly so I could pass. Even English was a burden although you think it will be easy, it wasn’t. I remember going on an adventure to Paris for a German company to set up a distribution for scanners. I so failed in the first months as my French was nowhere good enough and Catherine was not sitting next to me anymore. Luckily I could hire an Algerian assistant who…

We just finished Cohort 4 of Now Sprint Accelerator. All teams were selected based on SDGs and impact. We started with 15 teams and ended with 8 pitches. Some teams left as they understood that this was not a sit back and relax show but an interactive and intensive program with homework. Some teams I kicked out as they didn’t take it seriously for whatever reason. My way or the highway. I don’t want to sound harsh but we are all volunteers and our effort and time should be respected. One of the most important things in life for an…

My last selfie was with a great bottle of olive oil, this time it is with my chemo pump. It is that week again that chemo comes with all disadvantages. Metal taste, no envy to eat, even detest things I normally love. Weird, annoying feeling in arms and legs. Bad sleep. Bad toilet (no details here). And tired, tired. I am sharing this not to get your compassion or sympathy (but it does help a lot). I am thinking and celebrating all those going through the same sh*t. Keep the faith and the hope compatriots. Also to thank, in the…

Around 2 years ago, Neşen, my wife and partner, and I decided not to travel anymore between Istanbul and Izmir at least 2 times per month for 6 years. The distance is around 550 km and we traveled always by car. The result was tiredness, finishing our car and never a moment of rest. The advantage was that we could follow and even be a big part of the startup scene in both cities. To understand the scale, that’s over 20 million people almost double Belgium and a bit less than The Netherlands. It was a very intense period, but…

I discovered the theory of setting up and running a business after that I practiced it for more than 35 years. As a product of Art School, Film, Video, Screenprinting, and Photography, I stumbled into entrepreneurship because I would never ever work for anyone. I wanted to be free doing what I want when I want. I never worked for someone, but that doesn't mean that this freedom brought nothing but happiness or prosperity. On the contrary. For more than 35 years of so-called freedom, I struggled a lot but luckily also had some successes. …

Due to the covid restrictions I combined the horizontal and vertical programs into 1 Program: Agro Food Impact, online with all the requirements that can be found on the website www.nowsprintaccelerator.com. This post was created before this decision but it still makes sense so I didn’t want to delete or change.

Looking for money before you are able to sell your service or product makes that we accepted the failure rate of startups to 90%. I never understood why we want to make the startup ecosystem as a gambling circus. It is driven by opportunists looking for that exceptional multiplier…

Men and women are created equal, not just a cliche. Thomas Jefferson wrote it down and the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. But only after the American Revolution people interpreted it as a promise for individual equality. As “equality” we understand today. You can even find it back in religions but for long, theory and reality stood far from each other and still, today it is more of a promise than a reality. It is also a very touchy topic. In some countries, it is almost a given, in other countries you can get…
